11.11.2020. Press release on the presentation of Russia’s COVID-19 vaccines for ambassadors accredited in Moscow
On November 11, the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry hosted a videoconference to present the Sputnik V vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, as well as another vaccine, developed by the Vector State Research Centre for Virology and Biotechnology.
Alexander Yakovenko, Rector of the Diplomatic Academy, and Andrey Guryev, Chairman of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Coordination Council to Combat the Coronavirus Infection and General Director of Phosagro, addressed the participants.
General Director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev made a keynote report.
The vaccine projects were presented by Denis Logunov (DSc in Biology), Deputy Director for Research at the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Rinat Maksyutov (DSc in Biology), Director General of the Vector State Research Centre for Virology and Biotechnology.
It was the first time that the Sputnik V vaccine was announced as 92 percent effective.
Kirill Dmitriev invited representatives of foreign states to cooperate with Russia and announced, as a gesture of goodwill, a planned vaccination program for foreign embassy personnel upon request.
The speakers answered numerous questions from ambassadors and embassy representatives.
